The Cuesta College women’s cross country team placed seventh at the Southern California final in Ontario on Friday, led by Atascadero High graduate Devon Kelsey, who placed fourth in the 5K race with a time of 18 minutes, 7 seconds.
Cuesta finished with 181 team points, nine behind sixth-place Moorpark and 154 behind first-place Glendale.

Templeton High graduate Kasey Urman placed 13th (18:38) as Cuesta’s second-place finisher.
Glendale’s Karen Rofas won in a time of 17:54.
In the men’s four-mile race, Cuesta placed 10th as a team with 313 points. Templeton High graduate Paul Denlinger placed 10th for the Cougars (20:46), Danny Thomas placed 66th (21:37) and Tyler Gates (21:41) placed 73rd.
The meet marked the best combined Southern California finishes for Cuesta in school history.
San Bernardino Valley won the men’s team title with 68 points to 74 for runner-up L.A. Trade Tech.
The individual winner was Cerritos’ Daniel Herrera in 19:58.
Both Cuesta teams advanced to the state meet, which will be Nov. 19 at Woodward Park in Fresno. The top 14 teams at Friday’s meet advanced to state.
The No. 1-seeded Cougars shrugged off a slow start to dominate in their opening game of the Western State Conference Championships.
Holding a 1-0 lead after the first quarter, Cuesta scored six goals in the second frame to take a commanding lead, one it would not relinquish.
Alex O’Connor had five goals for the Cougars, Erin Hasenkamp had three and Carly Glogovac, Amanda Brown and Alexandria Bernard had one apiece. Loren Kasenberg had 10 saves in goal for Cuesta.
The Cougars (19-11) will face No. 2 seed Ventura today for the conference championship. Cuesta last won the WSC title in 2007.
The Mustangs (6-9-3, 3-6-1 Big West) gave up two second-half goals as Cal Poly fell on the road against the Gauchos (13-5-1, 6-4-0) in their season finale.
Tied 0-0 at halftime, Santa Barbara’s Luis Silva scored in the first minute of the second frame, giving the Gauchos the lead for good. Sam Garza added another goal for Santa Barbara in the 78th minute.
Patrick McLain had eight saves in goal for the Mustangs, who beat UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 14 and then went 0-4-1 in their final five Big West matches.
