  UPDATE 1 p.m.: The Paso Robles Fire Department has released more details about a crash near Paso Robles High School this morning.

  Two people were taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital after suffering minor injuries, said department Battalion Chief Kevin Taylor.

  A Chrysler minivan rear-ended an SUV, Taylor said, and a fire erupted in the engine compartment of the Chrysler. Fire department officials responded to the scene and put out the fire. The fire didn’t spread beyond the van, Taylor said.

  Charcoal briquettes thrown into a green waste container caused a fire at a Paso Robles home early Friday morning.

  A neighbor of the home at 50 12th St. smelled smoke just after 12:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Paso Robles fire department. The neighbor found the fire and woke up the resident of the home, who was able to get outside uninjured before firefighters arrived.

  Firefighters arrived 4 minutes after the 911 call, according to the news release, and found flames on the outside of the single-story residence. They were able to put out the blaze before it spread to the rest of the home.

  SLO County fire crews training at Meridian Vineyards today

  Fire departments throughout San Luis Obispo County are conducting a training exercise at Meridian Vineyards off Highway 46 East in Paso Robles today.

  The effort is a joint exercise with local fire crews and the county’s Urban Search and Rescue and Hazmat teams.

  About 60 members of local emergency personnel are training on topics such as confined space rescues and hazardous material scenarios to practice identifying materials and entering hazardous scenes, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Lee said.
