A mistrial has been declared in the case against a man accused of vehicular manslaughter in a 2009 car crash near Hearst Ranch, according to the county District Attorneys Office.
New evidence came to light in the case against Kurt Naegele at a hearing on Monday, and the trial was postponed, according to the District Attorneys Office.
Lawyers had started jury selection in the case and were preparing for trial.
Naegele, 41, of Newport Beach is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and two allegations relating to driving under the influence and causing bodily injury.
The rollover wreck happened about 11 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2009, at the Hearst Ranch property in San Simeon. The men had been attending a birthday party as guests of the ranch and witnesses at the party admitted that there had been drinking prior to the collision, a search warrant states.
The crash killed 38-year-old William Dahlman of Pasadena and injured passengers Christopher Pennell and Ryan Doheny, both of Los Angeles.
The new trial date is scheduled for February 7.
