The Atascadero Police Department was recently honored in a statewide competition for traffic safety programs, bringing the department accolades for making more than 175 drunken driving arrests in 2010.
Atascaderos seatbelt enforcement and education programs were also noted in the honor.
Atascadero police took third place in the 2010 California Law Enforcement Challenge, which recognizes law enforcement agencies statewide for their traffic-related policies, traffic enforcement, traffic-related training that officers receive and public information programs, according to a statement.
Atascadero Police Department Traffic Officer Caleb Davis was also recognized for his leadership in traffic safety education and enforcement during an October meeting of San Luis Obispo Law Enforcement Leaders at the San Luis Obispo Sheriffs Office, where the award was presented.
