Third-quarter updates

Trevor MacLeod rushed for a 5-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter to extend San Luis Obispo¹s lead to 17-7 in a penalty-filled game.

With the Tigers threatening to put the game out of reach late in the third, Atascadero linebacker Davis Cracknell intercepted a Garrett Giovannelli pass in the red zone and returned it 12 yards to keep the deficit at 10 at the end of the third quarter.

Halftime updates

San Luis Obispo vs. Atascadero:

A Tanner Kahn 29-yard field goal with a second to go in the first half gave San Luis Obispo High a 10-7 halftime lead over Atascadero. The Tigers outscored the Greyhounds 10-0 in the second quarter.

Jacob Flores of San Luis Obispo tied the score on the first play from scrimmage in the second quarter with a 19-yard touchdown run. Flores has 34 yards on four carries. Garrett Giovannelli is 5 for 18 passing for 64 yards and 57 yards rushing on five carries. Trevor MacLeod has 36 yards on three catches.

The game is a defensive struggle, as there have already been five punts in addition to three turnovers on downs. Although both teams are putting together good drives, the offenses cannot manage to put more points on the board. San Luis Obispo holds a 170-137 edge in total yards.

Deontae Barnes has a game-high 63 rushing yards on 19 carries in the first half for Atascadero. Robbie Berwick is 4 for 9 passing for 59 yards and a first-quarter touchdown pass to Logan Sprouse.

Arroyo Grande vs. Paso Robles:

Brent VanderVeen passed for 158 yards — including two acrobatic diving catches by Gabe Deleon and Garrett Owens — and the Arroyo Grande High football team cut a 10-point deficit to one, 14-13, going into the second half against Paso Robles at War Memorial Stadium tonight.

Deleon scored on a 15-yard touchdown, and Owens added field goals of 27 and 22 yards, the second as the first half expired, for the Eagles (7-1, 4-0 PAC 7), who can clinch at least a share of their first league title since 2004.

Looking to stay in the playoff hunt, the Bearcats (2-4, 1-2 PAC 7) took a 14-3 lead on a 53-yard catch-and-run by Max Blanton at the end of the first quarter.

Paso Robles took a 7-3 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Jimmy Pacheco that capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive on the Bearcats’ first possession of the game.

Paso Robles quarterback Garrett Nelson passed for 147 yards and a touchdown in the first half and had the Bearcats threatening to score up 14-10 toward the end of the second quarter with his team expecting to receive the ball to open the second half.

But on second-and-9 at the Arroyo Grande 30-yard line, Nelson was intercepted by Owens with 2:01 left, and the Eagles drove for the field goal that cut the lead to one.

First-quarter updates

San Luis Obispo vs. Atascadero:

Atascadero took an early 7-0 lead over San Luis Obispo in a sluggish first quarter on a 26-yard scoring pass from Robbie Berwick to Logan Sprouse with 1:22 to go in the quarter of tonight's PAC 7 football game in Atascadero.

The Tigers went three-and-out on their first possession and then got the ball back on downs after the Greyhounds picked up one first down but had to punt, leading to the Greyhounds' scoring drive.

San Luis Obispo's offense came out aggressive with seven passing attempts in its first 11 plays from scrimmage.
