UPDATE 7 p.m.: Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of 63-year-old Charles Lavenson.
Lavenson’s body was discovered early Sunday evening at the base of Cerro San Luis, near Lincoln and Mountain View streets. Investigators believe Lavenson was murdered, and that robbery may have been the motive for the killing.

UPDATE 10:33 a.m.: A memorial service for Charles Lavenson has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at First Presbyterian Church of San Luis Obispo, 981 Marsh St.
Original story: An autopsy on Charles Russell Lavenson, the 63-year-old San Luis Obispo man found dead near Cerro San Luis Obispo, determined that he died of blunt force trauma. A toxicological report is pending.
According to Lt. Jeff Smith, head of the Investigation's Unit of the San Luis Obispo Police Department, the findings weren't a surprise because of the nature and degree of the head wounds that Lavenson had suffered.
Lavenson's body was found around 4:50 p.m. Sunday at the base of the mountain near Lincoln and Mountain View streets.
"We haven't received any new information," said Smith with regard to the investigation. "We're still trying to establish a timeline of his activities and what he was doing Sunday."
