A California Valley man accused of severely beating his former girlfriend pleaded not guilty to charges of domestic violence Wednesday, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorneys Office.
Douglas Ray Flaata, 56, also pleaded not guilty to charges of elder abuse and criminal threats.
Deputies responded to the incident in California Valley off Highway 58 after getting an emergency call just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday from Dixon Trail, a mile south of Soda Lake Road.
The woman, a 74-year-old who was not identified, had suffered serious injuries, according to the county Sheriffs Department.
Flaata remains in custody in County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail, according to the jails website.
