Crews have installed white plastic shrink-wrap over the top of Atascaderos Administration Building to keep out the rain for the next year while they continue to reinforce the earthquake-damaged building.
The covering is meant to protect the interior of the four-story structure after the upper rotundas tiles were removed to prepare for structure reinforcement.
Installing the white tenting just happened to fall two days before Atascaderos historic Colony Days celebration Saturday, coincidently celebrating the areas founding roots with a tent city downtown.
The 1917 landmark City Administration Building most recently housed city offices and the Atascadero Historical Society museum before it closed after the 2003 San Simeon Earthquake. The three-phase project to fix it is slated to end in 2013.
The entire project is nearly 20 percent complete, according to contractor Bernards Construction.
Workers are currently removing asbestos and lead paint from the third floor and preparing the walls for reinforcement on the first and second floors.
