After conducting an extensive nationwide search, the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance board has selected a new executive director.
Jennifer Porter has been chosen to take the top spot that was vacated by former Executive Director Stacie Jacob in May.
Porter has an extensive background as a marketing professional with more than fifteen years of experience in the marketing industry.
Most recently Porter led the Integrated Marketing Department for Viacoms Comedy Central television channel in New York, where she created marketing for shows such as The Colbert Report.
Before that, Porter was the director of marketing and media for Sony Corporation of America, where she developed marketing programs for the Spider-Man and Bond movie franchises.
Porter, a Pennsylvania native who has lived in New York City for nearly two decades, says shes looking forward to life in Californias wine country.
I have a lot to learn to learn and I am excited about having the team that I have to work with me, Porter said Monday. As soon as I committed to moving to California this is the only industry I considered.
Im incredibly thankful for the board for taking a chance on someone with out a back ground in the wine industry, she added.
Porter says she is going to spend the next few months meeting the more than 500 members of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance and learning everything she can about the wine industry on the Central Coast.
Porter begins her work with the Paso Robles wine industry on Oct. 31.
The Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance represents wineries, growers and businesses within northern San Luis Obispo County.
Jacob was its executive director for seven years until she announced her departure in June to head a marketing firm, SolTerra Strategies.
She is also executive director of the San Luis Obispo County Visitors and Conference Bureau and was named Wine Industry Person of the Year this summer.
