UPDATE 1:14 p.m. Monday: Kevin Thomas Hilt, the Paso Robles man whose car hit a pickup truck head-on Friday along Nacimiento Lake Drive, is in a coma and on life support at Stanford Hospital in the Bay Area, the CHP said Monday.
Original story: A Paso Robles man suffered major injuries after a Friday morning car crash along Nacimiento Lake Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Kevin Thomas Hilt, 25, crashed his 1994 Mercury Topaz head-on into a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck just before 6:30 a.m., according to a CHP news release.
Hilt was traveling east on Nacimiento Lake Drive east of Mustang Springs Road, rounding a rightward curve in the road at what the agency described as a high rate of speed.
While negotiating the curve he let his Mercury travel into the opposing westbound lane, directly into the pickups path, according to the CHP.
The Chevrolets driver, Jason Victor Molinari, 31, of Paso Robles, suffered a minor injury to his arm, the CHP said.
Hilt suffered internal injuries, as well as a broken leg and arm, according to the news relase.
He was treated at Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, and then transferred to Stanford Hospital in the Bay Area after he was stabilized, the CHP said.
Both men were wearing their seatbelts, according to the CHP.
