Cuesta College’s men’s water polo team opened its own tournament Friday, defeating Cabrillo 14-4 and Sierra 16-5.

The Cougars (13-8), ranked fifth in the state, will play Santa Rosa at 11:15 a.m. today and Ohlone at 3:35 p.m. to conclude the tournament.

Dragan Dincic scored three goals against Cabrillo to lead Cuesta. Luka Vukomanovic, Jay Smart and Luke Walton each scored two goals for Cuesta, which got eight saves from Cody Cartozian and three from Thomas Ross.

Paul Davis scored four goals to lead Cuesta against Sierra.

Eric Marsh scored three goals, and Luke Walton and Dincic both scored two. Cartozian had nine saves, and Ross had six.

Cuesta has won eight of its past nine games. The Cougars usually keep a strict rotation of nine players, but this week Cuesta coach John Marsh said he’s been using 15 players each game, including two players that didn’t play the first month of this season. The additional six players have accounted for 20 goals in this week’s four games.
