Author and environmentalist Bill McKibben will come to San Luis Obispo on Oct. 30 to speak about social and environmental justice in a lecture titled, Brave New Planet: The Fight for a Livable Climate.
The event, sponsored by the Central Coast Clergy and Laity for Justice, will take place at the Fremont Theatre, 1025 Monterey St., beginning at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
McKibben has written several books, including The End of Nature and Deep Economy. His most recent book is Eaarth, spelled with two as.
McKibben founded the grassroots climate campaign 350.org and has been called the planets best green journalist by Time magazine.
He is a scholar in residence at Middlebury College in Vermont and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
His message, according to the Central Coast Clergy and Laity for Justice, is that global warming is no longer a threat, but a reality. Weve created a new planet, still recognizable, but fundamentally different. Were going to have to learn to make our lives on a tough new planet.
