Led by a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 singles sweep from Alex Mero, the Arroyo Grande High girls tennis team routed St. Joseph 15-3 on Monday evening.
The Eagles two other singles players, Sophie Whittle and Lauren Hayashi, also swept their sets for the fifth-ranked team in Division 3 of the CIF-Southern Section, and Elizabeth Mero picked up a win as a substitute.
Arroyo Grande (9-0 overall), off to a 6-0 start in the PAC 7, doesnt have any matches the rest of the week.
Im extremely pleased with the way this team is playing, coach Lori Hollister said. Its a hard-working group of girls and theyre highly motivated.
In doubles Monday, Stephani Domako and Amber Domako also swept, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-1. In the process, they handed the Knights No. 1 tandem their first loss of the season.
GIRLS GOLF
PAC 7 Tournament
St. Joseph, led by a 5-over medalist performance by Marissa Gutierrez, shot a 225 to win at Hunter Ranch in Paso Robles.
Gutierrezs 41 edged the scores of two of her teammates by a combined three strokes for top honors.
Atascadero came in second in the team standings with a 258, led by Kyleigh Jensens 47 and Marissa McClains 50. Anna Zhang had the best score of any San Luis Obispo County golfer by shooting a 44, lifting Arroyo Grande to a third-place 263.
The host Bearcats, paced by the 50s of Ashley Levanduski and Claire Baldal, finished fifth at 274. San Luis Obispo, led by Gillian Johnsons 52, was sixth at 302.
CIF-SOUTHERN SECTION RANKINGS
Two local girls volleyball teams made it into the Top 10 of this weeks official divisional polls released Monday.
In Division 1-A, PAC 7 frontrunner San Luis Obispo (14-4, 4-0) is now ranked No. 10.
Meanwhile in Division 3-AA, Templeton (8-1, 4-0), leading the Los Padres League, moved to No. 8 in its entrance into the Top 10.
In boys water polo, Nipomo (13-3, 1-0) stayed No. 1 in Division 7.
No San Luis Obispo County football teams rose in the rankings this week.
