Firefighters save 19-year-old who had heart attack

October 2, 2011

Fire Department paramedics said they saved a 19-year-old man who suffered a heart attack on the sidewalk near Johnson Avenue and Pepper Street in San Luis Obispo on Saturday night.

Summoned by 911 calls from passing motorists about 9 p.m., medics did cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used a defibrillator to shock his heart, according to a San Luis Obispo Fire Department news release Sunday.

An ambulance crew assisted and took the man to French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for treatment. The man regained a pulse on the way to the hospital, according to the Fire Department.

No information on his condition could be obtained because the Fire Department would not disclose the man’s name.
