County/Cal Fire has canceled a prescribed burn that had been scheduled for Sunday in the Huasna area east of Arroyo Grande because local firefighters have been diverted to wildfires in Southern California.
The 525-acre burn about four miles southeast of Lopez Lake was intended to reduce flammable brush and other fuels in the area, according to a Cal Fire news release.

Fire season is officially declared in SLO County
It was to be conducted with the cooperation of the San Luis Obispo County Range Improvement Association, and was hoped to improve forage conditions for livestock and wildlife.
It’ll be rescheduled depending on whether and available firefighting resources, according to Cal Fire.
Local Cal Fire equipment and crews have been sent to San Diego to help fight a 2,000-plus acre wildfire dubbed the Great fire, which is threatening the community of Jullian.
San Luis Obispo County Cal Fire is sending five fire engines, four fire crews, and aircraft to the Great fire.
In anticipation of being sent to assist in San Diego, County/Cal Fire has staffed all fire engines, fire crews and dozers to ensure San Luis Obispo County is protected.
Cal Fire reports that the Great fire is 5 percent contained as of Sunday afternoon.
