In Cal Poly’s first conference volleyball matchup at home this season, the Mustangs swept UC Davis 3-0 on Friday, ending the Aggies’ 11-game winning streak and giving the Mustangs their first Big West win of the year.
It was a statement win for Cal Poly, as the Mustangs, who came into their matchup against UC Davis tied for last place in the Big West, swept a team tied for first 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 at Mott Gym.

Jennifer Keddy led the Mustangs (6-10, 1-2 Big West) with a team-high 16 kills, while Kristina Graven had 10.
Kate Walters had 34 assists, Lauren Law had 12 digs and Graven also had 10 digs for the Mustangs, who host Pacific tonight.
The Cougars (4-4) were “outgunned” according to coach Roche Nystrom, losing 25-21, 25-14, 25-8.
Cuesta’s Tess Gilkey had eight kills, and Ashlan Cate had seven digs. Ensley Allmon had 13 assists, and Monica Reyes had two blocks for Cuesta.
“They served some tough balls, and I was proud of our passing. We played tough and played our game,” Nystrom said in a news release.
Cal Poly (7-4-1, 1-0-0 Big West) won its conference opener with a game-winning goal from senior midfielder Tiffany Gummow in double overtime. It was Gummow’s seventh goal of the season, and sixth in her past five games.
After a scoreless first half, Janali West put the Titans on the scoreboard with a goal in the 74th minute.
Cal Poly was quick to respond, tying the score four minutes later on a goal from senior defender McKenzie Orand. It was Orand’s first goal of the season.
Cal Poly goalie Brooke Gauvin held off Cal State Fullerton for the remainder of the game, finishing with six saves, including two in the second overtime.
Atascadero High graduate Devon Kelsey placed first on the women’s side with a time of 18 minutes, 21 seconds to lead Cuesta to a second-place team finish, and Templeton graduate Paul Denlinger (21:43) placed second as the Cougars tied for first on the men’s side.
On the 2.95-mile women’s course, Cuesta’s Kasey Urman placed sixth in 19:26, while Lizzie Uscanga was 12th in 20:05.
On the men’s side, Chris Gobell (22:24) placed eighth, and Jacob Vecerra (22:28) placed ninth on the 4.2-mile course for Cuesta.
Cuesta split its matchups in its own Rabobank Tournament.
Against Foothill, the Cougars won with Alexandria Bernard scoring five goals, Erin Hasenkamp and Julia Tatarian adding two apiece, and Amanda Brown scoring once.
Loren Kasenberg had four saves, and Randi Krueger had one.
Against Riverside, Alex O’Connor scored three goals for Cuesta (11-4), and Bernard and Michaela Billingsley each had one goal. Cuesta’s Kasenberg and Krueger had three saves apiece.
