A 68-year-old man from Taft was killed when his pickup and two big-rig trucks collided on a lonely stretch of Highway 166 near the far eastern end of San Luis Obispo County earlier this week.
According to a report in the Taft Midway Driller, the dead man was identified by Kern County coroners as Edward LeRoy Jones.
The crash occurred at 9:22 a.m. Monday. The Driller report said Jones was parked in a turnout on the east side of Highway 166, near the intersection with Cerro Noroeste. Jones then drove out onto the highway and tried to enter the westbound lanes.
A semi hauling a load of gypsum was driving past at that moment and broadsided Jones pickup, the CHP told the Driller. A propane truck then came upon the crash and slammed into both the gypsum truck and pickup. Read more at taftmidwaydriller.com »
