The National Weather Service has issued a small-craft advisory for the waters off the Central Coast through 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Forecasters warn that northwest winds are expected to increase to 10 to 20 knots, with gusts to 25 knots, this evening.
The Weather Service expects a brief lull on Monday morning, but that winds would soon rise to 15 to 25 knots, with gusts to 30 knots by the afternoon.
Seas are expected to build to around nine feet by Tuesday, forecasters say.
The advisory covers the waters from Point Piedras Blancas north of Cambria to Point Arguello in northern Santa Barbara County.
A small-craft advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots are expected to make wave conditions too hazardous for small vessels.
Inexperienced sailors, especially those in small craft, should avoid the waters during these conditions.
