Defending Big West Conference volleyball champion Cal State Fullerton downed Cal Poly 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 on Friday in Fullerton.
It was the Big West opener for the Mustangs (5-9 overall).

Kristina Graven led Cal Poly with 14 kills and had four digs. Catie Smith had 15 digs, and Kate Walters had 21 assists.
Cal Poly plays at Long Beach State tonight. The Mustangs and 49ers tied for second in the Big West last season.
Cuesta 3, Victor 0
The Cougars swept 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 in a nonleague match at home.
Tess Gilkey had a strong all-around night for Cuesta (3-3) with 20 kills, 10 digs and a .514 hitting percentage. Ensley Allmom had 35 assists and 15 digs. Monica Reyes had 9 kills in 16 attempts.
“I was pleased with how we played today,” Cuesta head coach Roche Nystrom said. “We just need to keep doing what we were doing during the season.”
SWIMMING
Cal Poly sophomore Joseph Wasko and junior Angie Haven were the Mustangs’ top finishers in the King and Queen of the Pool pentathlon between Cal Poly and Cal at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
Wasko completed five events in a combined time of 4 minutes, 37.28 seconds to finish 16th among 43 male swimmers.
Haven finished 14th among 42 women swimmers with a combined time of 5:01.60.
The top Cal finisher, earning King of the Pool honors, was sophomore Marcin Tarczynski with a time of 4:16.18 and Cal junior Caitlin Leverenz in 4:45.12, earned Queen of the Pool honors.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Fresno State 3, Cal Poly 2, OT
Lauren Lindstrom scored the winning goal for the Bulldogs (5-3-2) in the 97th minute to seal the win over the Mustangs, despite Tiffany Gummow’s two-goal performance.
Fresno State’s Callie Hancock scored first in the sixth minute, before Gummow responded in the 36th minute with a goal into the right corner of the net off of a feed from Christina Farrington.
Fresno State regained the lead early in 58th minute off a goal from Laura Dodd, her second of the season.
Just seven minutes later, it was Gummow who tied the score with her fifth goal in four games.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Cuesta 13, Cabrillo 10; Cuesta 9, Ohlone 3
The Cougars earned two victories in the Cabrillo tournament to advance to the championship rounds.
The Cougars (8-2) jumped out to an early 5-0 start in the first quarter over Cabrillo and never relinquished the lead. Alexandria Bernard led Cuesta with three goals, while Alex O’Connor, Erin Hasenkamp and Carly Glogovak each added two.
Cougars goalies Loren Kasenberg and Randi Krueger had five and three saves, respectively.
In their second game against Ohlone, O’Connor led the team with three goals while Hasenkamp added two. Krueger earned seven saves, while Kasenberg earned one.
