Man allegedly leads police on chase in parents' Prius, crashes into power pole

A 53-year-old man was arrested this afternoon after he allegedly stole his parents’ car and led CHP officers on a chase in Templeton.

Gregory Harrison was booked into County Jail this afternoon on suspicion of felony vehicle theft and evading a peace officer. Bail was set at $20,000.

Harrison’s parents filed a stolen vehicle report earlier today, said CHP Officer Todd Cookston. About 1 p.m., CHP officers noticed the vehicle, a white Toyota Prius, near Las Tables and Bethel roads.

Harrison did not stop for officers, Cookston said, instead leading them on a pursuit on Highway 46 west and eventually to Township Road at speeds of 30 to 45 miles per hour.

Harrison sped up to more than 50 mph on Township Road, which turns into a dirt road, Cookston said. Harrison drove off the road and hit a PG&E power pole at 1:37 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident two minutes later. At least three CHP officers were involved in the pursuit, Cookston said.
