Elizabeth Heyde, a freshman at Arroyo Grande High, won the girls race Wednesday afternoon at the six-team Lompoc Quad cross country meet, running the 3-mile course in 19 minutes, 19 seconds.
The Eagles finished fourth with 125 points on the girls side. San Marcos won with 20.

Rebecca Cruz was second among Arroyo Grande’s runners at 21:03, while Jocelyn Reynolds was third at 22:15.
On the boys side, Arroyo Grande sophomore John Nichols clocked an overall third-place 16:27 time. The Eagles finished in fourth place with 84 points. San Marcos was also first in the boys standings at 44.
John Miles ran a 16:59 for Arroyo Grande, and teammate Adam Shires came in at 17:21.
Coast Union Invitational
Templeton’s Veronica Russell won the 5K race at 19:56.
Templeton standout Savannah Camacho sat out the race. No team scores were kept.
“The team in general did pretty well,” Templeton assistant coach Jim Barodte said.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Arroyo Grande 3, Coast Union 0
The Eagles (9-2) got 15 kills from Alyssa Koenig and seven kills from Kendall VandenBerg, while the Broncos (0-4) remained winless on the season following Tuesday’s five-set loss to Los Padres League power Santa Ynez.
“Coast played hard,” Arroyo Grande coach Ernie Santa Cruz said. “They played good defense, but I think we were ready for them. … We served the ball tough, and we had some pretty big leads before they battled back a little bit at the end.”
Winning by scores of 25-10, 25-16, 25-16, the Eagles also got five aces and four kills apiece from Millisa Morrow and Madison Jacobs. Morrow also handed out 30 assists.
Nicky Ortiz had a balanced game for Coast Union, with five kills, six digs and four blocks, Amy Avina had seven digs, and Sophie Flemion had 25 assists.
Mission Prep 3, El Diamante 2
Facing a Visalia-based CIF-Central Section Division 2 opponent with an enrollment of nearly 2,000 students, the Royals rallied for a 25-21, 23-25, 27-25, 16-25, 15-11 home win.
“The girls were excited, and they came out strong,” Mission Prep coach Michelle Lakey said.
With the victory, Mission Prep (4-1) has a winning percentage of .800, the requirement to gain an automatic playoff spot as an independent program.
Sadie Casacca had 19 kills, 20 digs and three aces for Mission Prep. Grace Ready had 11 kills, 12 digs and three aces in the win, and Shannon Dudley passed out 44 assists in the win. Dudley also had nine aces.
Coastal Christian 3, Dunn 1
The Conquerors swept 25-17, 25-27, 25-17, 25-16 in their season opener.
Leslie Henry had 14 kills and 29 digs for Coastal Christian, while Koral Wright added eight kills and 38 digs. JoAnn Lindstaedt had 20 assists in the win.
