The Nipomo High boys water polo team earned a convincing win over a PAC 7 opponent Monday afternoon, 24-8 over Atascadero.
The Titans (2-0), whore expected to battle Santa Ynez for the Los Padres League title for the second year in a row, are ranked No. 3 in Division 7 of the CIF-Southern Section. Theyll have cracks at two more nonleague rivals later this week, hosting Paso Robles at 3:30 this afternoon and visiting Arroyo Grande at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
In Mondays rout, Cole Holloway netted a team-best seven goals, while Marc Baker tossed in six. Brennan Bryant and Alex Martinez added three scores each.
There were a lot of positives in this game, Nipomo coach Justin Jewell said. The guys continued to play solid defense, and it led to offense.
Goalkeeper Kirk Wilenius made 14 saves for Nipomo, which used a 15-2 run over the second and third quarters to roll to the victory.
GIRLS TENNIS
Paso Robles 12, Mission Prep 6
The Bearcats No. 1 singles and doubles teams both stayed undefeated.
In singles, Maria Petiy swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 for Paso Robles (2-0). She has dropped only two games so far this year.
Meanwhile, Riley Caruana and Amanda Keller swept 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 for the Bearcats, whose No. 2 doubles tandem, Laura Callahan and Kylie Pugh, also went unbeaten, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
For the Royals (1-3), whove shown vast improvement from a year ago, Ruslana Cannell took two of three sets, 6-0, 7-6.
GIRLS GOLF
Santa Ynez Invitational
Anna Zhang shot a 90 at par-72 Alisal River to lead Arroyo Grande, finishing third among PAC 7 players and 13th overall at the event featuring 15 total schools. Teammate Ramie Castilleja carded a 98 for the Eagles.
No other schools individual placings were available.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Righetti 3, Nipomo 0
The Warriors swept 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.
Stephanie Persky had seven kills for the Titans, Sarah Stahl tallied seven digs, and Cristina Ozzimo distributed 21 assists.
