The Nipomo High boys water polo team earned a convincing win over a PAC 7 opponent Monday afternoon, 24-8 over Atascadero.

The Titans (2-0), who’re expected to battle Santa Ynez for the Los Padres League title for the second year in a row, are ranked No. 3 in Division 7 of the CIF-Southern Section. They’ll have cracks at two more nonleague rivals later this week, hosting Paso Robles at 3:30 this afternoon and visiting Arroyo Grande at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

In Monday’s rout, Cole Holloway netted a team-best seven goals, while Marc Baker tossed in six. Brennan Bryant and Alex Martinez added three scores each.

“There were a lot of positives in this game,” Nipomo coach Justin Jewell said. “The guys continued to play solid defense, and it led to offense.”

Goalkeeper Kirk Wilenius made 14 saves for Nipomo, which used a 15-2 run over the second and third quarters to roll to the victory.
