Prep Roundup: Mission Prep football team rolls over Mammoth 41-0

Mission Prep’s football team dismantled Mammoth 41-0 on Saturday night.

In two games this season, the Royals have outscored their opponents 89-0.

The Huskies were overmatched from the opening quarter, as Mission Prep jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead. Tyler Baty tossed two of his five touchdown passes in the first quarter, and Calin Levisay had a 10-yard interception return for a score to bury Mammoth early.

Baty finished with five touchdowns and 288 passing yards, and Trevor Fernandez had eight catches for 109 yards and three touchdowns.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

San Luis Obispo Tournament

Arroyo Grande finished the tournament in eighth place, losing to top seeded Saugus 26-24 in the first round of the gold bracket playoffs.

The Eagles earned the last seed in the top bracket after defeating Oxnard 25-15, 25-23 and defeating Agoura 25-13, 25-23 in pool play. Alyssa Koenig had 27 kills and four aces for the day, Danielle Mullery had 19 kills and two blocks, and Kylee Anderson had nine kills and nine blocks for Arroyo Grande. The Eagles were the only county team to compete in the gold bracket.

Host San Luis Obispo went 1-2 in pool play, falling to Trabuco Hills 25-22, 27-26 before beating Rio Mesa 25-18, 25-15. The Tigers than lost to Buena 25-18, 20-25, 15-12 in their last match of pool play. In the gold consolation bracket, San Luis Obispo defeated Santa Ynez 25-15 to advance to round two, only to fall to Oxnard, 25-23. Elizabeth Culpepper had 28 kills, and Maggie Eppright had 61 assists to pace the Tigers on the day.

Atascadero defeated Frontier 25-18, 25-18 and then defeated Camarillo 25-21, 25-17 to open pool play before losing to San Marcos 25-21, 25-22. The Eagles lost to Oxnard 25-17 in their first-round gold consolation matchup.

Morro Bay advanced farther than any other local team in the playoffs, defeating Sunnyside 25-21 in round one of the silver consolation bracket and Hanford 25-22 in round two. However, the Pirates fell to Logan 25-23 in the silver consolation championship match.

Templeton lost to Oak Park 25-14, 24-26, 15-11 to start pool play, then swept Sunnyside 27-26, 25-12 and Liberty Ranch 25-14, 25-23. The Eagles fell in their first-round playoff matchup to Newberry Park 25-22.

Paso Robles lost to Oak Park 25-19 in their first-round bracket matchup after losing to Moorpark 25-15, 25-16 and defeating Logan 12-25, 25-22, 15-13 and Villanova Prep 19-25, 25-12, 15-4 in pool play.

Nipomo also its first-round bracket match to Placer 25-19. The Titans beat River Valley 25-21, 14-25, 15-10, lost to Newberry Park 17-25, 26-24, 15-10 and swept Tokay 25-20, 25-18 to wrap up pool play.

Girls Tennis

Arroyo Grande 6, Clovis West 0; Arroyo Grande 6, Mira Lona 0

The Eagles swept all of their matches at the Cal High Tennis Classic in Clovis.

Sophie Whittle and Lauren Hayashi won two singles matches in each team matchup.

In doubles, sisters Stephani and Amber Domako also picked up a pair of wins on the day. The Eagles took fifth place out of 16 teams.

CROSS COUNTRY

Morro Bay Invitational

San Luis Obispo’s Seamus Land (15 minutes, 15 seconds) and Luke Kramer (15:18) took the top two spots on the 2.73-mile course, capping a strong showing by the Tigers boys in the nonscoring meet. Riley Pill (15:50) and Josh Ernst (15:51) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, for San Luis Obispo.

Paso Robles’ Matt Kwiatkowski finished fourth at 15:32, and fellow Bearcat Zander Souza finished with in 16:00 to place 10th.

On the girls side, Paso Robles’ Devon Corea placed ninth at 19:31 for the top local finish.

Ventura’s Hannah Kirkegaard placed first at 18:00.

BOYS WATER POLO

Conejo Classic

Paso Robles defeated San Luis Obispo 6-3 in their first game of the day, led by Devon Nicklas’ four goals. Ben Magengaft had eight saves in goal for the Bearcats.

In their next game, Paso Robles lost to Nogales 11-3. Monty Renfrow had two goals and Noah Irwin had one. In game three against Atascadero, the Bearcats pulled out an 11-7 victory, thanks to three goals from J Young, Collin Moore and Ricky Lloyd, and two goals from Renfrow. The Bearcats finished the tournament 3-2.

Atascadero finished in 10th place after going 1-2 on the day. Chad Ponek had seven goals to lead the Greyhounds against Camarillo, a game in which Atascadero won 15-10.

In the second game, a 14-10 loss to Crespi, Ponek had seven goals again. Ponek also had four goals against Paso Robles.
