The new head of the San Luis Obispo County Arts Council has more than 20 years of experience in the local nonprofit community.
Charlotte Alexander officially took over Thursday as executive director of Arts Obispo on Thursday. She replaces Marta Peluso, who resigned after five years with the nonprofit arts advocacy group.
The wife of talk radio host Dave Congalton, Alexander previously served as CEO of United Way of San Luis Obispo County and executive director of the county Emergency Medical Services Agency. Alexander, who currently sits on Cuesta Colleges board of trustees, also spent a stint as the community colleges director of public affairs and community relations.
The Nipomo resident holds a bachelors degree from DePauw University and a masters degree from Ball State University, both in Indiana.
A reception for Alexander will be held tonight at Arts Space Obispo, 570 Higuera St. in downtown San Luis Obispo. The event, which lasts from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., coincides with Art After Dark.
