San Luis Obispo County’s emergency early warning siren system will go through its full annual test Saturday.
County emergency planners and Pacific Gas and Electric Co. test the sirens each summer, activating them twice to their full volume. The sirens are set to sound at noon and again at 12:30 p.m.
There are 131 sirens arrayed from Cayucos in the north to the Nipomo Mesa in the south and as far inland as San Luis Obispo.
They would be activated in the event of a radiation release at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, but they can be used for any widespread public emergency.
The sirens alert the public to tune into a local radio or television station for information and instructions. The public needs to take no action during the test.
