Workers with Silverado Contractors used heavy equipment Thursday to tear down the first of six decommissioned fuel oil tanks on the property of the Morro Bay Power Plant, sending a booming sound similar to thunder echoing down the Embarcadero.
The project, which is expected to take 30 to 45 days to complete, was delayed so that birds nesting around the tanks could be removed.
