  Motorists traveling eastbound on 13th Street in Paso Robles will be detoured at Spring Street at the end of this month or early June for about nine months as Caltrans reduces the 13th Street Bridge to one lane.

  Those who attempt to cross the bridge’s one lane configuration should expect delays of up to 30 minutes, with the morning and afternoon commutes to be the heaviest traffic periods, officials said.

  A “welcome” sign at the southern entrance to Cambria should be replaced soon, following a one-car accident that wrecked an existing billboard in November, according to a Cambria Chamber of Commerce official. But another community monument sign that was to go in a bit further south, alongside Highway 1’s northbound lane, isn’t going to happen.

  Contractors have constructed white framework for the replacement billboard in a wedge of land alongside Main Street just past the southern intersection with Highway 1.

  Mel McColloch, president of the Cambria chamber, said, “If all of the work stays on schedule,” installation and painting of the sign “should be complete by early April.”

  Authorities said they plan a sobriety checkpoint from 6 p.m. today to 2 a.m. Wednesday near downtown Pismo Beach as part of local law enforcement agencies’ annual winter crackdown on drunken driving.

  Pismo Beach police officers, along with the Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and San Luis Obispo police departments, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and California State Parks, will screen cars along southbound Highway 1 — also known as Dolliver Street — south of Frady Lane, south of the 7-Eleven store and in front of the Pismo Coast Village RV park, according to a Pismo Beach Police Department news release Monday.

  All vehicles will be stopped unless the traffic backup becomes too heavy. In that case, vehicles “will be selected by a preset standard to assure objectivity,” according to the news release.
