Anti-poaching checkpoint planned at Carrizo Plain monument

The Bureau of Land Management will conduct an anti-poaching checkpoint Saturday on the Carrizo Plain National Monument.

The checkpoint will be conducted from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. at an undisclosed location. The event is timed to coincide with this year’s deer-hunting season.

“The checkpoint is part of a comprehensive effort to promote safe, sustainable hunting practices and protect visitors and wildlife within the monument,” Johna Hurl, monument manager.

Poaching is a concern in the monument because it usually occurs in remote areas and the illegal take is transported to major cities for sale and export, BLM officials say.

  • Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
