  Brittany Hensley, advertising account executive at The Cambrian since 2006, has been named an advertising sales manager, The Tribune announced March 15. She will be responsible for real estate advertising and oversee advertising for The Cambrian.

  The 31-year-old San Luis Obispo native, a graduate of Paso Robles High School in 1999, lives between Morro Bay and Atascadero.

  Before joining The Tribune as a graphic designer in 2005, she worked in the graphics department at the Fresno Bee.

  Peter Andre often recalled one of the saddest moments of his life.

  In 1935, he had to tell his dying mother that he had to leave The Old Mission School. Because of Great Depression-era financial problems, the school was going back to girls only. Pete’s mother, a baptized Lutheran from a Danish immigrant family, loved the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart.

  Catholic nuns, in an era when women did not have the right to vote, built schools, hospitals and orphanages throughout the American West. The majority of the sisters were from other countries, often speaking English with an accent. They aroused curiosity and suspicion wherever they traveled. Yet, without their presence many of the basic human services that we take for granted would not exist. They soon became integral, often beloved members of the communities they served.

  Minors in San Luis Obispo County’s unincorporated areas who are skipping school would find it tougher to stay out on the street if an ordinance being considered by the Board of Supervisors comes to pass.

  The board is being asked to hold a public hearing Jan. 17 on the proposed truancy ordinance. It is being introduced at Tuesday’s supervisors’ meeting, but only for purposes of setting a date for the hearing next month.

  Should it be approved, it would affect only unincorporated parts of San Luis Obispo County, which are those areas outside city limits.
