The appointee would serve the remainder of Angels term through Dec. 1, 2012.
Candidates for the board seat must live in the communities of Avila Beach or San Luis Obispo and be registered to vote in the district.

Completed applications are due by 2 p.m. Sept. 6.
The school board has scheduled a public meeting for Sept. 13 to interview candidates and appoint Angels replacement.

The San Luis Obispo Public Works Department is replacing the roof on the Meadow Park Recreation Center and is expected to be done by Sept. 12.
The building will be closed until work is complete.
Its original roof dates back to 1975. The project will remove and replace the metal roof system, repair damage to wood decking and roof insulation and improve the roof drainage system.
Workers will be at the site from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. The estimated construction cost is $43,330.

A minor-injury crash backed up traffic along southbound Highway 101 near the Five Cities Drive exit Sunday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., a car overturned, sending two people to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, according to radio dispatches by medics at the scene.
The medics told the hospitals emergency room by radio that a woman suffered abrasions, bruises and other minor injuries, and that another person in the vehicle was drunk.
Medics did not specify whether the intoxicated person was the driver in the crash.
Authorities have not made any other information about the crash available.
