‘Fairy tales start with adversity and end with ‘happily ever after.’ The hero — honorable and caring — never loses faith in the goodness of people.
“That’s the kind of story we hope is being written for Kramer.
“Kramer is a big orange-and-white, long-haired cat with the sweetest kitty disposition. He loves attention and would nearly fall out of his kennel as he rolled on his back for a belly rub.
“But Kramer needed surgery — his eyelids rolled under, painfully rubbing on his eyes. At most county shelters, especially one as full as the San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter, Kramer would have been put to sleep.
Fortunately — because of donations to the ARF fund and the shelter supervisor’s offer to foster — Kramer had his surgery.
“While in foster care Kramer continues to be a cuddler; he also is living happily with dogs and cats. Due to his friendly nature, Kramer should be an indoor cat because it’s likely he wouldn’t know to run if confronted by a threat.
“Kramer’s stitches come out this week, and his vision is fine. Now Kramer needs to find a lifelong home.
“To help all the wonderful shelter felines, the shelter’s hosting a Kittenpalooza Adopt-A-Pet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To ensure as many happy endings as possible, all cats and kittens will be half price.
“Shelter animals believe in happily ever after. Come to the shelter this weekend and make some dog or cat’s dream come true.”

The adoption fee is $75 for cats and $100 for dogs, plus a $20 county license fee for dogs if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents. The adoption fee includes spay or neuter, basic vaccinations, microchip, eligibility for a free veterinarian check, new collar and ID tag, and carrier for cats.
Animal-related events
The Five Cities Dog Park Association and the Arroyo Grande Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring their second “Puttin’ on the Dog” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Elm Street Dog Park in Arroyo Grande.
The event will include doggie contests, a doggie/owner parade, dog demonstrations, adoption opportunities, a raffle, food and pet paraphernalia vendors, dog licensing and many more fun events, as well as a barbecue hosted by the Arroyo Grande Valley Kiwanis Club. Proceeds will help maintain the off-leash dog park. For more information, call 748-6407.
