An Arroyo Grande man accused of shooting a San Luis Obispo man in the buttocks pleaded no contest today to negligent discharge of a firearm causing bodily injury, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Sepehr Moarefy, 20, entered his plea to the misdemeanor charge before Judge Jacquelyn Duffy and now faces sentencing on Sept. 14. He had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A no-contest plea results in a conviction without an admission of guilt.

Moarefy was identified as the shooter in a June 6 incident in which 26-year-old Omar Zermano Gonzalez was wounded.
On June 6, two men in a red Honda Civic dropped off Gonzalez at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and then left before police arrived, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
Two days later, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department deputies saw Moarefy driving north on Highway 101 near Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo and arrested him based on his suspected role in the shooting.
Moarefy faces 98 days in County Jail and a 10-year prohibition on possessing a firearm, according to the District Attorney's Office.
