San Luis Obispo residents craving fresh fish from Olde Port Fish and Seafood will no longer have to drive to Avila Beach or Arroyo Grande to get their fix.
Michael Cohen, owner of Olde Port Fisheries Inc., has opened another location at Olive and Santa Rosa streets. With a staff of 11, the market and restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner.
“It’s half fresh seafood and half restaurant,” said Cohen, whose brother, Leonard, owns the Olde Port Inn restaurant in Avila Beach. “We’ll have an extended menu, and you’ll be able to cook to order from our display case.”
The market will also sell live crab and lobsters for customers who want to cook at home. It will also offer smoked fish and salmon, items Cohen said the market is already “pretty famous for.”
Cohen spent about five months improving the 1,400-square-foot space, the former site of a Burger King restaurant, installing new equipment, including a custom-made display case, tables and chairs, and putting in new landscaping.
“We found this place, and it was a perfect match and great spot,” Cohen said.
