The Santa Barbara Foresters defeated the Haysville Heat 6-4 in a summer collegiate baseball game Thursday, maintaining their undefeated record in the Nation Baseball Congress World Series and clinching a berth into the national finals.
The finals are Saturday. The Foresters’ opponent has yet to be determined.
It wasn’t easy, though, as the Foresters need a big inning to get past the Heat. With the Heat leading 3-2 going into the seventh inning, Santa Barbara rode a four-run inning to defeat Haysville.
With their 6-4 win over the Kenai Oilers on Tuesday and a 7-0 victory against the San Diego Waves on Wednesday, the Foresters are in the final. During the three-game span, former Nipomo standout Jeff McNeil went a combined 3 for 12 with two runs and an RBI.
Arroyo Grande High’s Zach Stevens placed fourth in the men’s 100-meter backstroke, and Mia Schachter placed 26th in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke at Junior National Swimming Championships.
Stevens finished with a mark of 1 minute, 4.28 seconds, an Olympic Trials qualifying time, while Schachter finished with a time of 1:13.28. Earlier in the week, Stevens earned an Olympic Trials qualifying time in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:19.98.
