Four San Luis Obispo County residents will graduate Friday from the state Department of Fish and Game law enforcement academy in Paradise in Butte County.

Thomas Anderson of Arroyo Grande, Jared Strouss of Atascadero and Martin Willis of San Luis Obispo will graduate as game wardens. Michael Higgins of Atascadero is graduating as a self-sponsored cadet who paid his way through the academy with hopes of being hired as a warden once training is complete.
They are part of a class of 39 graduates. Wardens enforce the state’s fish and game laws and are responsible for preserving and protecting the natural resources and wildlife of California.
They often work alone in remote areas of the state. Annually, wardens make contact with more than 295,000 people and issue more than 15,000 citations.
