Catholic Healthcare West, which runs three hospitals on the Central Coast, has announced it will lay off 30 employees at its hospitals in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria.
A number of factors led to the layoffs, according to CHW spokeswoman Megan Maloney. All three hospitals have had costs increase while revenue declined, on top of the effects of the economic downturn.
Arroyo Grande Hospital laid off two people; French Hospital Medical Center laid off nine people and Marian Medical Center laid off 19 people.
All of the affected employees were informed Friday, said Maloney. CHW is attempting to transition those that have been laid off to open positions where possible.
Maloney said the layoffs will not impact service at their hospitals and that no registered nurses lost their jobs.
The nonprofit hospital group employees 2,245 on the Central Coast, and is part of a 40-hospital system.
