Riot at California Men’s Colony leads to lockdown

Fighting between two prison gangs in the California Men’s Colony on Wednesday morning has led to a lockdown in the prison’s West Facility, according to CMC officials.

Lt. Dean Spears said a riot took place at approximately 10:15 a.m. and involved about 120 inmates who are associated with two prison gangs. No injuries to staff or serious inmate injuries resulted from the brawl, Spears said.

“At this time, the reasons for the incident are under investigation,” Spears said.

A timeline for when the lockdown would be lifted also isn’t certain as officials assess and review the incident, Spears said.
