The ring around the sun that was visible for a time Friday morning was caused by high-level cirrus clouds made of ice crystals. According to local forecaster John Lindsey, the sunlight reflected off the ice crystals, creating the ring.
Skies should be gray today as a late-season storm brings the potential for up to 1.25 inches of rain to San Luis Obispo and the coast. Inland mountains could get more than 2 inches.
