The Achievement House will move its work activity program for adults with special needs back to its permanent location behind Cuesta College today.

The nonprofit group was forced to move the program to another location nearly four months ago when all utilities to the building were severed during a storm.

Electricity and phone lines are now working. The sewer line is not. Workers and employees will rely on portable toilets.

The temporary move to an unused San Luis Coastal Unified School District classroom affected about two dozen adults who participate in the program, which focuses on vocational support services for adults with disabilities.

Despite the thrift store and nursery remaining open at the site by means of a generator, donations have dropped significantly in the past few months because people were not certain of where to go, said Leslie Alvarado, business services coordinator for Achievement House.

“We are happy to be getting back,” she said.

During severe rainstorms in late December, a eucalyptus tree fell onto a World War II-era wooden bridge spanning Chorro Creek at Camp San Luis Obispo, cutting off all utilities to the nonprofit group’s operation.

Alvarado said there is no clear timeline on when the sewer line repairs would be done.
