Nipomo’s Britt takes second in high jump at Mt. SAC

Nipomo High’s Amber Britt placed second in the girls seeded division high jump at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday with a mark of 5 feet, 2 inches.

Britt reached the same height as winner Nikki Wheatley of Bonita, who won by finishing with fewer misses than Britt. The top five jumpers all cleared 5-2. Britt bettered her mark from last year’s meet, where she finished tied for first in the open division at 5-1.

Another Titan with an impressive finish was senior Heather Hawes, who placed eighth in the girls shot put in the invitational division, the top division at the meet. Hawes, who earlier this season set the school record in the shot put, had a throw of 39-2¼.

The San Luis Obispo boys picked up a win at the meet as well, finishing first in the 6,400-meter relay in the open division with a 18:21.84 mark, just less than 3 seconds faster than second place South Pasadena. The team was comprised of Seamus Land, Stephen Kasper, Brayden Schmidt, and Luke Kraemer.

Nipomo’s Tevin Limon, the school record holder in the pole vault, competed in the seeded boy’s pole vault but failed to clear a height.

The San Luis Obispo girls relay team of Meghan Arigo, Mariah Grady, Olivia Carmo, and Leah Rife-Dupuy placed eighth in the open division 6,400 relay with a time of 22:48.29.

TRACK AND FIELD Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo at Bill Kearney Invitational

The Arroyo Grande boys and girls track and field teams took home first place trophies at the Bill Kearney Invitational. The girls finished with a score of 81.5, just 1.5 points ahead of San Luis Obispo, and the boys finished with 65.

For the Eagles boys, Uriel Mendoza won the 400 meters (49.86 seconds) and the long jump (21-51⁄2), and Garrett Weinrich had a personal best in his win in the boy’s shot put (57-4). For the Eagles girls, Madison Jacobs was first in both the shot put (40-31⁄2) and the discus (131-10), and Anna Vasylenko finished second to Jacobs in both (37-21⁄2 and 125-7 respectively).

The Bearcats boys finished with a total of 63 points in second place, while the girls finished tied for fifth with 27. Matt Sepulveda won the boys discus with a mark of 164-4, while Spencer Marsh won the boys pole vault (13-3). Zander Souza won the boys 1,600 meters (4:24.03) and then placed second in the boys 800 (1:57.5). On the girl’s side, Dominique Terry took second in the 200 (26.10) and then third in the 400 (61.54).

San Luis Obispo’s girls relay teams finished first in the 400 relay (50.11) and the 1,600 relay (4:07.43) and Calia Kammer finished first in the high jump (5-4).

Morro Bay at Russell Cup

Four individual Pirates, and a relay team, placed at the Russell Cup.

Ryan Wheat broke a school record, clearing 6-4 to place second in the boy’s high jump.

Billy Vetrin took third in the boys 1,600 meters (4 minutes, 40.59 seconds), and also took fourth in the 800 (2:05.69).

Hanna Cary, Allie Sulaitis, Ashley Fisher, Tess Volkov placed fourth in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:22.23. Volkov also placed fourth in the 400 (1:02.23).

Olivia Watt also finished third in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 49.79.

BASEBALL Mission Prep 15, Villanova Prep 2

Anthony Bosshardt gave up two unearned runs and struck out six with no walks in the complete game victory for the Royals (9-5).

Josh Dalaban was 2 for 3 with two doubles and five RBI, Stephen Fleming was 2 for 4 with three RBI, Art Lane was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI, and Joey Hall was 2 for 4 as Mission Prep cruised to an easy win.

SOFTBALL San Luis Obispo 4, King City 3; Soledad 12, San Luis Obispo 2, five innings

In the first of two makeup games that were rained out in March, the Tigers (9-10) won in dramatic fashion.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Jessica Yabarra finished a rally by drawing a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run.

Andrea Reynolds pitched a complete game for San Luis Obispo in the win, giving up three runs on six hits with no walks and twelve strikeouts. Kelly Lewelling was 3 for 4 with a double, and Erica Chandler was 2 for 4 with a double for the Tigers.

In game two, San Luis Obispo lost in five innings. Taylor DiLullo gave up twelve runs in five innings, picking up the loss for the Tigers. Lewelling was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a triple.

SWIMMING ANG DIVING San Luis Obispo Diving Invitational

Dan French from Cabrillo won the boys competition with a score of 224.15, and San Luis Obispo’s Tessa Merritt won the girls competition with a score of 389.85.

Other top finishers for the Tigers were Maia Vernacchia, who finished third with a mark of 317.7, and Kevin Shultz, who took second on the boy’s side (332.25).

Arroyo Grande had a total of seven boys and girls finish in the top ten. Jake Millbrandt had the highest finish on the boys side, finishing fifth with a score of 276.35. Meghan Anderson was the highest finisher on the girls side, taking fifth with a mark of 298.95.

Devon Nicklas placed fourth on the boy’s side (278.0), and Amanda Gritzfeld placed fifth (298.95) on the girl’s side for Paso Robles.
