Nipomo High softball star Courtney Cuzick threw a one-hit shutout Friday, blanking Morro Bay 3-0 on the road for a Los Padres League win.
The victory put the Titans (12-7, 5-2 LPL) in a first-place tie with the Pirates. Cuzick struck out 14 and did not walk a batter.

“When she’s on, she’s on,” Nipomo coach Matt Paradis said. “Today she was very effective at getting ahead of batters. When she pitches to her capability like this, we have an opportunity to win every game.”
The Titans got it done offensively, too.
“Just as big as the pitching was our clutch hitting today,” Paradis said.
Catcher Ari Hulsizer had a single with two outs in the first that started a rally resulting in Hulsizer scoring. She finished 2 for 3.
“This was a really big game,” Paradis said. “With five league games left, it puts us in position to control our own destiny.”
Jill Compton gave up five hits and struck out 11 in the complete-game win for the Eagles (10-9, 3-4 PAC 7).
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, Jordan Robinson (who was 1 for 1 with two walks) singled and was bunted to second. Then Alexa Wetmore doubled for her only hit of the day, scoring Robinson to take the lead for Arroyo Grande.
After advancing to third on a throwing error, Wetmore scored the decisive run on a sacrifice fly from Moriah Vargas.
Jenna Wookey pitched seven innings, struck out three and gave up four earned runs as the Bearcats topped the Panthers.
Megan Clark went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Paso Robles (15-5, 5-2 PAC 7), Carly McCall was 2 for 2 with two RBI, and Wookey went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
Brigit Godfrey, Jessie Hufstetler and Erin Pennington were all 2 for 4 with two RBI as the Greyhounds (14-5, 5-2 PAC 7) cruised.
Jill Johnson pitched a three-hit shutout, and Marissa McClain was 3 for 4 with a double for Atascadero.
An 11-run fifth inning proved to be too much for the Crusaders to overcome.
Three of Coastal Christian’s 17 runs were earned, due to six total errors by North County Christian.
Kylie Bergquist had four strikeouts and allowed three earned runs for North County Christian.
Cheyenne Ricks hit a three-run home run in the fourth for the Crusaders (5-4, 4-2 Coast Valley).
Kyle Raubinger gave up four hits and one unearned run, while striking out five in seven innings as the Eagles defeated the Tigers.
Jordan Morrison went 3 for 4 with two RBI for Arroyo Grande (13-4, 9-3), while Brent Vanderveen went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Tied 4-4 going in to the sixth inning, Elias Stokes broke the game open for the Bearcats (12-4, 8-4 PAC 7) with an RBI single, putting Paso Robles up for good.
Matt Culp earned the win for Paso Robles in five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and walking four with one strikeout. Mac Stuart tossed two innings in relief for the save with four strikeouts.
Austin Swank was 2 for 4 with a double, and Angel Gonzalez was 1 for 4 with two RBI for the Bearcats.
For the Greyhounds (6-6, 4-5), Tanner Thompson was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored, Mitchell Angeloni was 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Weston Walker was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
From the moment Daniel Katches walked in the bottom of the first, it looked like North County Christian might be poised for a big game. Once he reached base, Katches stole second and then came home for the first run of the game off of a misplayed ball hit to the shortstop.
But, two home runs and four errors later, the game swayed in the favor of the Royals.
Anthony Bosshardt hit a two-run home run in the fourth, while Trevor Fernandez hit a solo home run in the second for Mission Prep.
For North County Christian (6-3), Katches finished 1 for 2 and scored a run, while Keelan Willison was 1 for 2 with a solo home run in the fifth.
Dominic Garcia gave up three runs, none earned, on two hits in the complete-game win for the Titans (7-4, 5-2 LPL).
Marc Baker led the way offensively, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI. Cole Holloway was 3 for 4, Ryan McNeil was 2 for 4 with a double and Kenton Garl was 2 for 3 with three RBI for Nipomo.
Kendall Swanson earned two automatic CIF-Southern Section postseason-qualifying times when she won the 50-yard freestyle (in 25.7 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:01).
Mel Freeborn earned a postseason-consideration time, winning the 100 breaststroke (1:17.2).
Catalina Hubbard also picked up two wins for Morro Bay (3-1 LPL), placing first in the 200 individual medley (2:47.2) and 100 backstroke (1:16.6).
For the Morro Bay boys (3-1 LPL), Mac Reinhart, Tyler Fraser, Shane Crockett and Isaac Wilkie posted a season-best 1:57.41 to win the 200 medley relay.
Fraser also won the 100 freestyle (53.42 seconds) and the 50 freestyle (23.87), and Reinhart won the 100 butterfly (1:06.92) and 100 backstroke (1:06.01) for the Pirates.
For the Eagles boys, Peter Malouf won both the 100 breaststroke (104.58) and 200 IM (211:56) to lead the way.
For the girls, both Caitlyn Taylor and Mia Schachter won two events.
Taylor won the 100 backstroke (1:13.34) and the 100 freestyle (59.91), and Schachter won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.98, a postseason-consideration time) and the 200 IM (2:18.3, also a postseason-consideration time) for the Eagles.
The Greyhounds boys and girls took first, second and third against the Warriors for the PAC 7 win.
For the boys, Justin Miller was first with a score of 163, Josh Doolin was second at 157.6, and Ian Roorda was third at 141.95. For the Greyhounds girls, Alysa Floercky won with a 192.6 (automatically qualifying for the Southern Section postseason), Kelsay Shorter was second at 168.85 and Allie Keefer was third at 166.6.
No results from the swimming portion of the meet were available.
The Tigers (8-5) managed one doubles win, and San Marcos star Petar Jivkov swept 6-0, 6-2, 6-0 as San Luis Obispo lost. Josh Milla went 0-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Coco Angulo went 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 for San Luis Obispo.
Dennis Diener won in both singles and doubles as the Broncos defeated Fresno Christian.
Luis Gonzales won 8-5 in singles, Kevin Donahue won 8-2 in singles, and Jose Plasencia and Jordan Woeste won 8-4 in doubles for Coast Union (5-6).
Christine Hoffmann’s second-place finish in the 3,200 meters highlighted the Tigers’ day.
Hoffmann finished with a time of 11:00.01.
Also for the Tigers, Micayla Rennick placed seventh in the 1,600, after she finished with a time of 5:12.07.
On the boys side, Seamus Land finished 12th in the 3,200 (9:33.16), and Brayden Schmidt finished 13th in the 1,600 (4:26.13).
