The San Luis Obispo City Council will continue its discussion of the citys 20011-13 budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The council was slated to give staff strategic direction about the budget Tuesday but a prolonged discussion about the citys goals ran late into the night.
Mayor Jan Marx, with unanimous support from the council, adjourned the meeting at 11:15 p.m. acknowledging the council would hold a more thoughtful discussion at an earlier hour.
The city faces a $4.4 million shortfall in its $54 million annual general fund for the fiscal year 2011-12 that begins July 1. That shortfall will grow to $5 million in 2013-14 and is projected to be $4.7 million annually for each of the next five years.
