Three Cal Poly athletes earned Big West Conference winter all-conference academic recognition when honors were announced Wednesday.
Rachel Clancy and Abby Bloetscher were both selections from the Mustangs womens basketball team, and Matt Titchenal represented the mens basketball team.
Clancy, who was Cal Polys second consecutive Big West Womens Basketball Player of the year after averaging 16.9 points per game as a senior, was also a CoSIDA Academic All-America third-team selection.
To be eligible for the all-academic team, athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, complete a full academic year at the member institution prior to the season and compete in at least 50 percent of the teams contests.
Cal Poly wrestler wins junior national title
Cal Poly freshman wrestler Jesse Delgado won the 55-kilogram (121 pounds) championship at the FILA Junior Nationals Freestyle Championships on Sunday at the Cleveland Public Auditorium.
Competing for Meathead Wrestling Club, Delgado earned a 2-1, 1-0 decision over Jack Hathaway of Trojan Wrestling Club.
The junior age group consists of 17- to 20-year-olds, and the top six finishers in the seven Olympic classes qualified for the Junior World Team Trials.
Delgado competed in four open tournaments at Cal Poly this past season, compiling a 16-1 record and three first-place finishes.
