Cal Poly’s offense clicked from the beginning, as the Mustangs had three runs with five hits in the first inning of a nonconference 7-2 baseball win at Santa Clara on Tuesday night.
The Mustangs finished with 14 hits and also showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks.

Bobby Crocker finished with a team-high three hits and had two runs scored.
Mike Miller was 2 for 6 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, and D.J. Gentile was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Elliot Stewart also had a multi-hit game for the Mustangs (12-16), finishing 2 for 3 with home run, a run scored and an RBI. Mitch Haniger also had a home run for Cal Poly.
Picking up the win for the Mustangs was starter Kyle Anderson, who pitched five innings, giving up six hits, no runs and no walks while striking out four.
Santa Clara’s only two runs, both unearned, came in the ninth inning.
Cuesta 6, Moorpark 0
Phillip Gerber picked up his seventh win of the season for the Cougars (19-11, 11-5 Western State Conference-North Division), pitching a complete-game, three-hit shutout against the Raiders.
Gerber gave up no walks, hit one batter and had seven strikeouts.
Former Mission Prep star Alex Detz was 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBI that included a two-RBI single.
Josh Miller also contributed three hits, including a double, and a run.
Both Max Duval and Darren Mullen, San Luis Obispo High grads, had two hits each for Cuesta.
SOFTBALL
Cuesta 8, Allan Hancock 1
Liz Isaak contributed on both sides of the ball in the win against the Bulldogs, pitching the complete game while going 3 for 4 for Cuesta.
Isaak gave up four hits, one run and one walk with 11 strikeouts for the Cougars (12-23, 7-6 WSC-N). She had a double, a run scored and a RBI.
Ashley Dooley, a former Atascadero High standout, was 4 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
Karen Berna was 3 for 4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored for Cuesta, which finished with 14 hits.
MEN’S GOLF
Braveheart Classic
Cal Poly went into the third round of the 15-school tournament in eighth place, but ended up slipping into a tie for 10th with San Francisco at par-72 Oak Valley Golf Course in Riverside.
The Mustangs finished with a final score of 905, compared to Long Beach State, which won with an 870.
The medalist was Loyola Marymount’s Jake Sarnoff, who entered the day as the leader and finished at an 8-under 208.
Cal Poly did not have any golfers finish in the top 20, with the closest being Geoff Gonzalez in 22nd at a 6-over 222. Teammates Bryce Greeley and Scott Patterson tied for 38th at 229.
