Two arrested after allegedly breaking into cars in SLO

Two people were arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly breaking into vehicles in downtown San Luis Obispo.

At 4:22 a.m., a resident called police and said they saw a male subject looking into vehicles with a flashlight in the 300 block of Buchon Street.

Officers searched the area and found two people leaving the area on bicycles, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department. Both allegedly had property that was taken from vehicles during the night, including iPods, a radar detector, a laptop computer, tools, cash, credit cards, wallets and some clothing.

The bicycles the pair were riding were also thought to have been stolen, police said.

Arrested on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property were Jeremiah Alvarez, 20, of San Luis Obispo, and a 15-year-old from San Luis Obispo.

Alvarez also had an outstanding warrant, police said. He was booked into County Jail, where bail was set at $20,000.

The teenager was also cited for allegedly possessing cigarettes and marijuana. He was turned over to his parents.

Police are trying to find the owners of the stolen property. If anyone had their car broken into or their bicycle stolen overnight, they are asked to call the police department.

One of the cars broken into was parked in the 2500 block of Broad Street, police said. The passenger window had been broken with a rock.
