Cuesta College students who hope to become emergency medical technicians, nurses and paramedics practiced saving lives at the Atascadero Fire Department.
The all-day training, now in its 18th year, was conducted Saturday. Participants faced various scenarios, such as rescuing people from simulated auto accidents using salvaged vehicles and the Jaws of Life device. Students also learned how to treat victims with traumatic injuries.
Cuesta College, San Luis Ambulance, Cambria Community Healthcare District’s ambulance division and Action Towing work with the Fire Department on the effort. Action Towing has donated more than 50 vehicles to the training throughout the years. The ambulance companies donate personnel and equipment.
Nearly 30 students took part, Atascadero Fire Captain Bill White said.
