Cal Polys mens tennis team won for the eighth time in its past nine matches Sunday with a 6-1 home win over Sacramento State, but the match everyone wanted to see didnt happen.
The featured match was expected to be the No. 1 singles match between Cal Polys Andre Dome and Sacramento States Kiryl Harbatsiuk, ranked 32nd nationally.
Harbatsiuk was reportedly ill before the match and although he and Marko Starcevic played to a 9-7 loss to Dome and Alexander Sonesson at first doubles, Harbatsiuk was unable to continue in singles.
So, instead, Dome defeated Jason Smith 6-2, 6-0. That was one of five singles wins for Cal Poly (13-3). The only win by the Hornets in singles came from Starcevic, who defeated Sonesson 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Brian McPhee, Marco Comuzzo and Sebastian Bell won their singles matches for Cal Poly in straight sets, and Jordan Bridge was a three-set singles winner.
The Mustangs swept the three doubles matches. Other doubles teams winning for Cal Poly were Comuzzo and Bridge and McPhee and Drew Jacobs.
