  Oregon’s Jordan Hasay will focus solely on the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

  The former Mission Prep star is entered only in the 1,500 for next week’s NCAA West Regional meet at the University of Texas. The top 24 finishers in the meet, which will run from Thursday to Saturday, will qualify for the NCAA meet scheduled for June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

  Declarations for the West regional meet were announced Thursday and Hasay is listed only in the 1,500, an event she finished third in as a freshman. She has the third-fastest time in the NCAA this season. Last season, attempting a 1,500-5,000 double, Hasay was fourth in the 5,000 and then struggled to a seventh-place finish in the 1,500.

  Thanks to her big toe and a lot of convincing the right people, Whitney Sisler could have one more chance to make sure her previous trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championships won’t be her lasting memory.

  As a junior, the Cal Poly athlete made it to the national finals in the women’s high jump. Sisler was looking to follow in the footsteps of former teammate and national champion Sharon Day, who blazed the two-way soccer-track trail that Sisler followed.

  But in the 2010 finals, Sisler was dealt an unfortunate hand in stormy Eugene, Ore.

  In its first season under new head coach Nick Carless, Cal Poly’s men’s tennis team is heading to the Big West Conference championship match.

  After defeating UC Davis 4-0 in the conference semifinals on Saturday at Indian Wells, Cal Poly clinched a chance to win its first-ever conference title as the Mustangs will play UC Santa Barbara today at 9 a.m.

  It will be the Mustangs’ first trip to the championship match since 2007, when they also played the Gauchos. UC Santa Barbara is looking for its first title since 2009.

  Kyle Anderson pitched a complete game in the opener, and Kyle Brueggemann tossed eight scoreless in the nightcap to lead the Cal Poly baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of San Diego State on Saturday at Baggett Stadium.

  Anderson scattered 10 hits and struck out five in his second complete game of the season, and freshman rightfielder Nick Torres was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Mustangs (16-8) to the 7-4 victory over the Aztecs (10-15) in the first game.

  Mike Miller was 2 for 5 with two runs scored, Mitch Haniger was 2 for 4 with two RBI, and David Armendariz was 2 for 3 with two RBI for Cal Poly.

  Cal Poly’s men’s basketball team will play at Northern Colorado on Feb. 19 in an ESPN BracketBuster game.

  The ESPN BracketBuster series, which matches mid-major teams from around the country in key midseason nonconference games, announced this season’s games Monday.

  Northern Colorado won the Big Sky Conference Tournament last season to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Seeded 15th, the Bears lost their opening-round game to second-seeded San Diego State.
