The Friends of the Atascadero Library held a public tour Sunday of 6555 Capistrano Ave., the future home of the expanded library.
The Atascadero-Martin Polin Regional Library has outgrown its current location on Morro Road, and the group has long desired to move it to a larger space that would allow it to double in size.
The Friends, in partnership with San Luis Obispo County, still need to raise $1 million to move into the larger building. Some county offices would also move into the space.
Escrow closed on the approximately $3.4 million building Dec. 29. It was paid for using county, city and Friends of the Library funds. With tenant improvements and other costs, the total move is estimated at $8.4 million.
The former Rite-Aid location on El Camino Real was once considered for the library expansion, but officials last year settled on the Capistrano site as a better choice.
