The Womens Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County has a new plan of action this holiday season to increase awareness about intimate partner violence and child abuse in the community.
The Home Safe Home Project asks local businesses to host a house for the holidays.
The 12-inch-by-12-inch wooden homes serve as donation boxes and will be placed at various businesses throughout the county during the holiday season.
Each home was built by inmates at the California Mens Colony carpentry shop and painted by shelter volunteers and staff. The materials were provided by Hayward Lumber, San Luis Paints and Home Depot.
The Womens Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County still needs about seven businesses to host a house for the holidays.
All of the money collected through the Home Safe Home Project will be used to fund programs and services at the shelter.
